Job Details

The Analysis Engineer is responsible for conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) work involving the stress and deflection analysis of MMD’s designs under varying loading conditions to verify that the equipment will function properly and reliably when put into service. The FEA techniques are particularly well suited to model complicated geometry and complex loading situations, which are very prevalent on MMD’s Sizing Stations, Feeders and Sizers. The Analysis Engineer utilizes three-dimensional models of the equipment at the design stage, subjects them to predicted loading scenarios, and then based on the results of the analysis provides the necessary feedback to the MMD UK Technical Department

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models, to analyse the structural integrity and investigate the responses of various machines parts, structures and assemblies of MMD Sizers and Mobile Equipment under typical operating load conditions.
  • Application of FEA software suites including ANSYS Workbench, Design Modeler and SpaceClaim as well as AutoCAD and SolidWorks in aid of the analyses.
  • Perform engineering calculations to compute for loads and to validate the results and responses of the FEA models.
  • Determine the loading and boundary conditions of FEA models. Make assumptions, troubleshoot and debug FEA models.
  • Produce technical reports to present and summarise results, and highlight areas of structures that require design attention. Proposal of appropriate design changes (i.e. removal of material to save weight, addition of material where required) to improve the performance of components.
  • Working with the technical department to discuss and solve problems and determine appropriate design and analysis methodologies.
  • Explore advanced analysis (i.e. impact analysis etc.) and FE model meshing (AI environment methods to improve on the level of accuracy of the FEA. Apply structural design optimisation techniques (sizing, shape and topology) toward improving the design of structural components toward better weight saving and material usage).
  • Occasional short overseas travel may be required.

Experience / Skills

  • A degree in a relevant Mechanical subject
  • A passion for engineering and problem solving
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present results and formal analysis reports in a clear and concise manner
  • Appreciation of the mechanical design process and manufacturing methods
  • Good working knowledge and experience of ANSYS would be an advantage
